Short-term rental taxes on Spitio
Updated 14 October 2026 · 2 min readSpitio doesn't decide which taxes apply to your stays, and it doesn't set any rates. You enter them yourself, and Spitio adds them to the guest's total.
Where to enter them
Go to Host → Pricing → Taxes. The same fields are also in the Pricing step when you add a home. They are:
- VAT, as a percentage
- City tax, as a percentage
- Environmental fee, in euros per night, with one amount for April - October and one for November - March
- Detached house over 80 m², a box to tick for each home this applies to
Leave a field empty if it doesn't apply. An empty field means that tax isn't charged.
The suggested figures
The form shows today's usual Greek figures as placeholders:
- VAT: "Stays in Greece: 13%."
- City tax: "The municipal tax, usually 0.5%."
- Environmental fee: "Climate resilience fee: €8 a night April–October, €2 November–March (€15 / €4 for detached houses over 80 m²)."
These are only placeholders. You decide what applies to your home, and if you're not sure, ask your accountant. Ticking Detached house over 80 m² fills in €15 and €4; you can still change both.
How taxes are added
Percentages apply to the stay and the cleaning fee. The environmental fee is counted night by night: a night from 1 April to 31 October pays the April - October amount, a night from 1 November to 31 March the November - March amount. A stay from 29 October to 3 November, for example, pays 3 nights at the first and 2 at the second. VAT and city tax are never added to the environmental fee. Guests see one line, Environmental fee, with the total. Bookings already made keep the amount they were made with. Guests see the nightly price on search cards, and the taxes itemised on the booking card, with the line "Taxes are set by the host as Greek law requires."
The taxes apply to all your homes unless you untick Apply to all my homes and choose some, for example when some are run through a company. Then press Save taxes.
