What happens if my subscription payment fails?

Updated 30 September 2026 · 1 min read

Sometimes a card payment for your subscription doesn't go through: when your plan starts with your first booking, or when it renews. When that happens, we e-mail you, Stripe tries the card again over the next few days, and your plan on Host → Subscription shows "Payment overdue". Every page of your host dashboard shows a banner too. Here is what happens next.

What happens to your homes

The first 7 daysYour live homes stay live and guests can still book them. You can't put more homes live.
After 7 daysIf the payment is still failing, your live homes are paused: guests can't make new bookings. Bookings you already have stay as they are. Your homes are saved, not deleted, and marked to come back.
Once the plan is paidYour paused homes go live again by themselves.

If you try to put another home live while the payment is failing, you see: "Your last payment didn't go through. Update your card under Subscription, then publish."

How to fix it

  1. Go to Host → Subscription.
  2. Press Change card and save a new card with Stripe. We try the payment again with it straight away.

Once the payment goes through, everything is back to normal. You don't need to publish your homes again.

Flags on your homes

While the payment is failing, each of your live homes carries a "Payment failed" flag for our team. The flag doesn't take a home offline by itself, and it clears once the plan is paid. See What gets a home flagged?

If the payment goes through within the 7 days, your homes stay live the whole time.
