Pay only on Spitio
Updated 25 September 2026 · 1 min readWhy paying on Spitio matters
When you pay by card on Spitio, the payment goes through Stripe, our payment provider, straight to the host's own Stripe account. Your card details go to Stripe and never reach Spitio or the host.
If you cancel, refunds are automatic only for payments made on Spitio. The money goes back to the same card, usually within 5–10 days.
If someone asks you to pay another way
Before a booking is confirmed, never pay anyone who asks you in a message to pay outside Spitio. That includes a bank transfer, or a payment through another website.
If it happens, report it:
- in the conversation, press Report a problem and choose "Asked to pay outside Spitio"
- on a listing, press Report this listing and choose "Asks to pay outside Spitio"
See Reporting a message or listing.
The one exception
Some hosts haven't set up card payments on Spitio yet. When that's the case, your booking page itself says that the host will arrange payment with you directly, and that nothing is charged on Spitio. That message comes from Spitio, not from the host, so you can trust it.
In that case, if you cancel, the host refunds you directly and Spitio's team follows it up. If the money hasn't arrived within 10 days, reply to the cancellation e-mail.
