Why are phone numbers and e-mails hidden in messages?

Güncellendi: 25 Eylül 2026 · 1 dk okuma

Until a booking is confirmed, you and the host talk on Spitio. This keeps payments on Spitio, where card payments go through Stripe and refunds on cancellation are automatic.

What gets hidden

Before a booking is confirmed, every message is checked as it is sent. Contact details are hidden automatically:

  • e-mail addresses become "e•••@•••"
  • links and web addresses become "[link hidden]"
  • phone numbers of 7 or more digits keep their first 4 digits, and the rest become "•"

Dates such as 12.10.2026 are left alone. The hiding is permanent: a message sent before the booking was confirmed stays hidden afterwards too.

When details are shared

Once the booking is confirmed, messages are no longer hidden. You don't need to swap numbers yourself. The For your stay panel beside the conversation in Messages shows:

  • the exact address of the home
  • the host's phone, if they gave one
  • the host's e-mail

Listings and addresses

Listings can't contain contact details either. Phone numbers, e-mail addresses, links and messaging-app names are hidden from listing text automatically.

A listing's map shows an area of about 300 m, not a pin. The exact address comes with your booking. See Why can't I see the exact address yet?

If a host tries to get around this, for example by asking you to pay or talk somewhere else before the booking is confirmed, use Report a problem in the conversation.
